Islet Technology

In 1994, Wiele co-created Islet Technology, a renowned diabetes research company based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Islet Technology's innovations included an insulin-producing islet cell isolation, encapsulation, and transplantation method. The method sought to revolutionize treatment options for insulin-dependent diabetics.

Islet Technology maintained close ties with the University of Minnesota, the University of California, Davis—or UC Davis—and the University of California, Los Angeles – best known as UCLA. Wiele and his team regularly collaborated with the three leading universities on projects ranging from microencapsulation to islet cell transplantation.

Islet Technology prospered for over a decade as a recognized international leader in diabetes research. Wiele served as the renowned diabetes research company's chairman until May 2005.

Scott Donald Wiele lives in Golden Valley in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Golden Valley is a western suburb of Minneapolis, one of Minnesota's famous Twin Cities. Twin City Minneapolis exists alongside the neighboring North Star State capital of St. Paul. Entrepreneur, environmental services expert, and manufacturing specialist Scott is a dedicated family man.

Forever putting his loved ones first, he is also passionate about numerous hobbies and other interests. Among these hobbies and interests are dining, golf, meditation, music, reading, running, travel, and writing. He meditates, reads, and listens to music daily. Golf and running, meanwhile, are his two longest-standing hobbies. Wiele has been a runner for over 40 years.

Elsewhere, he started golfing as a young child and has never lost his desire to improve. Decades later, he has played in numerous golf tournaments and is currently achieving the best scores of his life. Work-wise, Wiele is now approaching retirement but will remain a consultant in the manufacturing sector, where he has so successfully established himself.
